Graywater Reuse
What is Graywater? Graywater is water that has been used from most plumbing fixtures except a toilet or urinal. In some cases, kitchen sinks are also not considered graywater due to the high organic loading ( i.e. FOG, Fats, Oils, and Grease).
The use of graywater for irrigation, toilet flushing, or other nonpotable purposes could significantly reduce the amount of water purchased from a municipality or drawn from a private well in areas where rainwater is not plentiful.
The discussion of the reuse of graywater is based on water that has been pretreated using approved methods, and is soley for those areas where codes allow the reuse of graywater. Graywater must only be reused when the treatment, storage, and conveyance has been designed and installed by a licensed professional, assuring proper and safe cross connection controls and backflow prevention.
