Aaaa Maple
Whats this all about AAAA Standard guitar wood?
What does it mean to have a ‘AAAA Maple Body’ ive seen AAA and AA i dont know what the A’s stand for
It is a classification system found in woods used for cabinets, instruments, quality floors etc. It goes from A and up to 5A, and it defines the degree of figure or grain.
If you take curly maple, like you will see in guitar tops or violin backs, then a AAAAA would be highly figured and even piece of maple, ready to be book matched.
The degree of figure says little about the sonic qualities of the wood – it is largely an aesthetic dimension.
Some guitar makers, like Taylor, use their own classification of woods – A, B and so on. In other words, this is not an exact science
